I am pleased to announce the Board has voted to hire Jim Thomas as our new General Manager.
We had more than 35 applicants for this position, and we interviewed five highly qualified individuals. Jim stood out, though, as the best candidate to take BYSC into its next chapter.
Before retiring in 2019, Jim owned and ran his own consulting company, and he is a biologist by training with heavy experience in water treatment.
His past experiences and infectious and upbeat personality make him the ideal person to be the first point of contact for potential and current members, the overseer of our employees and grounds, and the leader for our club’s day-to-day operation.
Jim has accepted our offer and is planning on at least a five-year commitment. He will start Monday, January 18, 2021.
For those of you that may not be aware, Jim Thomas has been a member of the club since 2013, and he is the husband of our current Board member and Commodore, Brooks Thomas.
During our hiring process, Brooks abstained from participating in all discussions and voting to hire Jim. After much consideration, our Board voted in favor of allowing Brooks to continue as a Board member and Commodore.
I am confident Brooks and our Board will navigate the few conflicts of interest that may arise.
We now have the excellent opportunity to have a dedicated, long-standing, capable BYSC couple willing and able to manage our club for 2021.
With their substantial benefit of unfiltered communication, there will be great synergy with this team that can only bring added efficiencies in this time of transition. They are both dedicated to keeping BYSC on a positive track.
I hope all our members will please welcome and support Jim in his new role. Ultimately, his success will be our success.
Chair of the Board
