Thank you all for allowing me to hold the General Manager’s spot for the past 38 days. It seems like a week and a half as it has flown by.

We all owe a huge thank you to Jerry Giarla for his dedication, loyalty, and extraordinary contribution as the past General Manager. I personally want to thank him for the seamless transition and his tireless assistance throughout the change.

We are busy getting ready for warm weather here at BYSC. You would think that this is the slow time, but the club is buzzing with activity.

The back deck is really taking shape. Thank you to the crew that has given so much of their time and talent. If you have not seen it, please swing by and look at the craftmanship, and a new part of the clubhouse that will serve us for years to come.

The sea wall is another major change to the property at BYSC. O’Quinn Marine Construction has completed about 80% of the sea wall. They should wrap up their work in the first week of March. The wall is up, the fill dirt is in and the cap is coming soon. This addition, although expensive, is a super investment in our club’s future. As one of the engineers said, “we are not trying to keep the water out, we are trying to keep the land in.”

There will be plenty of volunteer hours needed as we add the landscaping. Frank Pontious is heading this project. Please read his article.

BCSB is putting on a virtual fundraiser on March 6th. There are already some fabulous items on which to bid. And, not to be missed is a special appearance by Captain Irons. You never know what will happen when the auction sword comes out. Please see Dani’s article for information. If you would like to donate auction items, contact Dani or the office.

March 19th is the BYSC Member’s meeting and the Oyster Roast. This event is always a club favorite. Get out of your Covid cave and come breath some fresh air and eat some delicious South Carolina Oysters.

On the weekend of March 27th and 28th, The Santa Elena Regatta returns. After taking last year off, we should have a good turnout for this big boat classic race. Sign up on the BYSC website. Electronic registration only this year.

And finally, if you have not met our new Office Administrator, please come by the office and meet Justine Lucas. Justine is a big addition to the BYSC staff. She and her Marine Corp Air Station husband Chase and her three children are a wonderful addition to the BYSC family.
