Dear Members,

As we brave the cold and the pandemic, we look forward to milder weather and more opportunities to enjoy our beautiful surroundings at the Beaufort Yacht and Sailing Club. As I’m writing this, the news is on. I hear, “This virus is still out of control” and “Do not participate in indoor activities with people outside of your home.”

Experts ask us to take advantage of outdoor, socially distanced activities to keep the virus at bay.

Our property is ideal for outdoor social distancing with activities such as tennis and pickleball, paddle boarding and sailing, bocce ball, and many locations to relax and soak in the view. If you wish to take advantage of any of the activities mentioned above, please check with one of our BYSC employees on-site for proper use guidance.

Besides your individual enjoyment of the club, the BYSC board will sponsor limited outdoor events during the next two months. Please participate as your comfort level dictates. We ask you to stay 6 feet away from anyone outside of your household and wear masks unless you are eating or drinking. And please do not use the kitchen in the clubhouse.

The long-term forecast indicates Wednesday, February 10 will be a chilly but clear night for us to resume our “Steak Night Lite.” This event will be held outdoors and limited to the first 40 members who sign up.

We will set heat lamps on our newly constructed deck. Please remember to dress warm and bring your plates and cutlery since the kitchen remains closed. Bring your beverage and enter the food line one table at a time to avoid standing too close to others.

In March, we look forward to more outdoor fun at the club. The postponed New Year’s Day Oyster Roast & Auction will take place on March 6. Details and sign up are on our website.

The board has moved our Spring Member’s meeting to March 19, 2021, a bit later than our regular February meeting. The hope is the delay will bring warmer weather, mores vaccines, and less Covid-19. An oyster roast and goodies from the grill will follow the meeting.

The activities mentioned above will take place if the weather permits. We all look forward to better days but celebrate the gift of our club as a respite in these difficult times. Beaufort Yacht and Sailing Club provides its members with a place to breath the fresh air, get away from it all, and
relax.
