The Fall and Winter sailing seasons are ramping up quickly! Our high school team is still squeezing out every bit of sunshine they can get for their weekly practices. They are gearing up for their next Points Regatta at Lake Lanier this weekend. They also just competed in the College of Charleston Invitational, where schools from around the country are invited to compete in one of the toughest regattas outside of the National Championship. Congratulations and good luck to the team at the next event!

The O’Pen Skiff Midwinter Championship was held at the Carolina Yacht Club (Charleston, SC) the weekend before Thanksgiving and BYSC was proud to bring 5 BYSC members and another 2 Doyle Development Team (run by BCSB) members for a total of 7! The regatta was a true “Unregatta”, with short starts, a lot of slalom courses set right next to the dock, the Bridge of Doom, all sorts of crazy tasks to complete on each leg and even an “Expression Session”. The Expression Session was held at the end of the first day inside the docks at the club and judged by a Panel of Undistinguished Judges. We saw everything from popping a wheelie, to capsizes while dancing to push ups off the boom. The kids had a blast and are looking forward to the US Sailing Jr Olympic Sailing Festival this upcoming weekend as well as the O’Pen Skiff North Americans in the spring. Congratulations to our BYSC competitors Arabella Duer, Lachlan Duer, Dane Turner, James Fabian & Bradley Fabian.

Finally, mark your calendars for the Annual Oyster Roast & Auction on January 1, 2020. What better way to ring in the New Year than with your sailing and boating friends helping to support junior sailing and boating in Beaufort!
