Beaufort High Sailing Fall 2018
Welcome to the 2018 BHS fall sailing season! BHS competes in the “SAISA” (South Atlantic Interscholastic Sailing Association) district which is further divided into North and South. Last season we finished 4th overall out of 40 schools in the Saisa North district and we hope to pick up where we left off this season.
Do you have a sailor interested in sailing for Beaufort High? Here’s some information to get you started!
- Practice – Our first practice is this Friday, 8/24 at 4:15 PM at BYSC. BE THERE!! Practices will be Tuesday’s and Fridays, same as last year. Our head coach is Peter Gamble and assistant coaches are Chris Duer, Chris Hoogenboom, Walt Gnann, Jeff Meyers and John Potter. All of our coaches are volunteers.
- Dues and Waivers – Before you can sail you have to (1) sign a waiver and (2) pass a swim test. Team dues are $85. You can sign the waiver and pay HERE. Swim test will be this Friday before going on the water.
- New Sailors – We are ALWAYS looking to bring new sailors onto our team. This is a “no cut” team, no experience is required and you do not need to be a BYSC member. Sailors do need a good attitude and you have to pass the swim test. New sailors DO need to complete the online waiver but DO NOT need to pay dues until after the 2nd practice so they can “try before you buy”. We have no formal age limits for who can practice with the team but SAISA rules only allow for 8th – 12thgrade sailors to compete for the team. If you know of anyone that might want to join our team please forward this email to them.
Please come out on Friday, ready to do a swim test, sail, and find out more details!
Younger sailors – stay tuned! Beaufort Community Sailing and Boating will be rolling out some more fall programs shortly!
