The year has started very strong for our Beaufort sailors! After another record year for our Annual Oyster Roast & Auction, our sailors go right on the water to start practicing for the upcoming O’Pen Skiff North American Championship.
Our high school team recently went down to Jacksonville for the next points regatta where after a competitive regatta ended up 3rd overall! The team was Clay Myers / Casey Hoogenboom & Ian Hoogenboom / Brock Blonski. Great job all!
The younger team attended the SAYRA Annual Meeting where they received their awards for the 2019 SAYRA Jr Grand Prix. Congratulations to the following BYSC sailors:
O’Pen Skiff (U13):
Dane Turner – 1st
Bradley Fabian – 3rd
Opti Blue
Arabella Duer – 3rd
Opti White:
Lachlan Duer – 2nd
12 clubs in SAYRA qualified sailors in the season long championship. BYSC tied for 2nd in the number of sailors receiving awards in 2019. Congratulations to all of the sailors! (A side note, BCSB formed a regional team called the Doyle Development Team. 7 of the 9 Optimist Class awards in the SAYRA Jr Grand Prix were members of the DDT!)
Finally, BYSC was again awarded a SAYRA Jr Grand Prix event for 2020. The Pluff Mud Championship will be held at BYSC on September 19-20. Last year we had almost 70 participants! Let’s see if we can beat that this year, but we can only do it it’s your help. Mark your calendar and stay tuned for some requests to help with what we hope will be the largest Jr only event in SAYRA for the 2nd year in a row!

Sail fast,
Beaufort Community Sailing & Boating
