Welcome 2019! Last year was fantastic for all of our programs and we have huge plans for 2019. We want to stop and take a minute to thank all of you, our supporters, for all that you do for sailing and boating in Beaufort County.
We just completed our annual New Years Day Oyster Roast & Auction. We had a great day, with a record turnout for some of the best oysters, butts and sides of the year. The auction was filled with great items, like VIP tickets to Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden, onshore and offshore fishing trips, sailing cruises, artwork…way too much to list here, but the bidding was fun and high and we thank you all for your support.
Soon we will have our full 2019 schedule out. Stay tuned for the dates to sign up for both the summer Learn to Sail and the Spirit of America program. Remember, these spots fill up fast, so register early.
Finally, as you know, we have reached the point where some of our junior fleets are starting to reach the end of their useful life. Our fleet of 10 Optimists is in need of a full refurbishment. We are elated to announce that our Adopt-An-Opti refurbishment program has had the first two spoken for at the full adoption asking price of $1,000. Marge Barber and Gordon Sproul will both get to name their Opti once the refurbishment is complete. That means there are 8 Optis left to sponsor and can be named for a person or even a commercial business. Contact Chris Duer (firstname.lastname@example.org) for more information or to contribute.
We also are in the replacement cycle on our 420 fleet. These boats have served us well for the last 10 years, but are finally no longer in the stage where they can be refurbished and still be competitive. We currently have fourteen 420s (the minimum required to host high school regattas). We are again happy to announce that we have had two 420s spoken for! For only $5,000 to sponsor a new 420, you can also name the boat in a personal or commercial way. Contact Chris Hoogenboom (email@example.com) for more information or to contribute.
Thank you again for all of your support. We are very proud of the juniors coming out of our program and our club should be as well. We hope that you visit with our young racers whenever you are at the club. They enjoy telling stories of their racing and sailing and would love to hear yours!
