While the year is on the final run to the finish, our juniors are still tacking through the Southeast representing BYSC and BCSB. Over the last 3 weeks, Bella Duer, Lachlan Duer, Benji Gambla and James Fabian have sailed in a number of regattas. We sailed very well at the O’Pen Bic Midwinter Championship (Carolina Yacht Club, Charleston SC) where Bella took 3rd. We followed that up with the US Optimist Midwinter Championship (Southern Yacht Club, New Orleans LA) and the US Sailing Jr Olympics (US Sailing Center Martin County, FL). We are very proud of how our team is growing and performing!
We hope that you’ve enjoyed hearing some of the stories from our junior and high school teams travels this year. We also are excited about all of the junior activity happening around the club and want to take a minute to thank you, our donors and supporters, for your dedication to growing and expanding sailing in Beaufort County. 2018 was a record number for the number of students going through our programs! As you know, our mission has expanded this year to include adult sailing as well as taking on the Beaufort location of the Spirit of America youth boating education program. Taking on the Spirit of America program was one of the biggest undertakings that we have pursued in several years and has paid back more than we could have imagined. Through this program, we have had several parents apply for membership in BYSC and have had a huge impact in the number of new members of the high school team and a few as a part of the junior Opti and O’Pen Bic teams. The organization of this new program again couldn’t have happened without volunteer support from the community and club members.
We want to remind you to save the date for our annual Oyster Roast and Auction at BYSC. Oysters begin at noon on January 1st with the auction shortly to follow. This event is our single biggest fundraising event of the year and helps to keep our equipment maintained, purchase safety equipment, provide our educational programs and help to support the advanced racers as they travel to events outside of BYSC. At our Auction, you can find everything from artwork, electronics, boats, fishing charter and bottom cleanings. We even have a essentially brand new floating boat lift! This year, we are focused on replacing our fleet of 420s as well as a refurbishment of our Optimist dinghy fleet (Adopt and Opti). Please stay tuned for more information about these specific things, but we will be offering this up at the auction as well. Also, if you have anything you would like to donate to the auction through our 501(c)3 organization, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com and we can help you!
We look forward to seeing you at one of the most exciting functions of the year! The BCSB Annual Oyster Roast & Auction.
