…from
the Sail Loft I’m looking forward to serving as your
Fleet Captain for the 2010 sailing season. It
should be great – this year’s revival of the Jean Ribaut Cup (a PHRF regatta
on Port Royal Sound), our hosting of the SAYRA Youth Challenge and an enhanced
Water Festival Regatta are three events I’m especially excited about!
A big Thank You to Mac Cook, our 2009 Fleet
Captain. His tireless efforts to
upgrade our equipment and enhance our race management program really made a
difference. Upcoming events of note include:
Ø
the South Atlantic Yacht Racing Association
(SAYRA) Conference in Ø
the 2010 Sailing Season Meeting Saturday, March 6,
to include River Rats training and the famous BYSC Barstool Regatta (Sue and
Larry have agreed to host it again); and Ø
the first race of the Spring Series Sunday, March
28. We’ll need all of our great River Rats and
more new ones to support all of these exciting events this year – so if you
enjoy getting out on the water, think about volunteering for this club race
management program. (Hours count
toward your volunteer requirement.) Check the Bow Watch and Calendar for
details on these events and activities throughout the sailing season. If
you have questions, suggestions or comments, you can reach me at 525-1316,
575-8998 or barbers@islc.net. Let’s make the 2010 sailing season the
best ever! Fair winds and calm seas, John Barber
